History of Downs Preschool
Buddy and Holley Downs opened Downs Preschool on April 30, 1984 to fill a void in a growing community by offering quality child care to children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.  In August 1995 they offered four Georgia Lottery Funded Pre-K classes in addition to the child care classes.  The Pre-K program was so successful they chose to discontinue the child care program and added three additional Pre-K classes.  The program then became Oconee Pre-K at Downs Preschool.  Since 1995 over 2000 children have attended Pre-K at Downs Preschool.  In May of 2005, Mr. Buddy’s daughter Lisa took over as Program Director.  Lisa and her husband Glenn have three children and believe just as Mr. Buddy and Mrs. Holley did that our children are our greatest treasures and that they deserve the very best start to their education.

Program Director Lisa Downs Henry has been a Georgia licensed paramedic for 20 years. She also holds degrees in Business Administration and Organizational Management but feels her most important educational credential is being the mother of three wonderful young men.

Philosophy and Mission
We believe that all children have the right to an education which best meets his/her individual needs.  All students need to experience the joy of learning, becoming physically fit, learning responsibility, and feeling good about themselves each day.  We want each child to develop to his/her fullest potential.  We will ensure that all students are provided with a safe and caring environment where the individual needs of the students are met.

Oconee Pre-K @ Downs Preschool is a Georgia Lottery funded Pre-kindergarten program.  Bright From the Start (BFS) is the state agency responsible for administering Georgia’s Pre-K program.  This is a voluntary program, which provides appropriate activities and learning experiences that help prepare young children for school.
